Our athletes participate in the following events: sprints, long jump and shot put. We take part in Friendly athletics events as well as Inter primary and learners continue to take part in Area-, District- and Provincial competitions as far as their skills and the prerequisites allow them to go. We have some very talented learners!

The highlight of the athletics season is the Inter-House Athletics Competition which takes place early in January. The three houses that compete against each other are: Dominic (Green), Catherine (Red) and Marion (Yellow).

Soccer runs in the veins of our learners and a soccer ball is always close at hand. The school takes part enthusiastically in friendly matches and in the local soccer league. We have Boy’s Mini-Soccer (U/7, U/8, U/9) as well U/10, U/12, Open Boys and Open Girls teams. LM Sports Academy also runs their soccer club from our school, providing a further opportunity for learners to develop their soccer talent. LM Sports Academy provides the school with professional coaches who assist with training the soccer teams.

Swimming

Sancta Maria Junior School runs various sport-related extra mural activities at the school, including but not limited to; swimming safety lessons, cricket, Zumba (Foundation Phase) and Kinderkinetics (Grade R & 1).

The school has a swimming pool, thus learners have the opportunity to learn basic swimming and water safety skills at our school during school hours. Currently, the swimming pool is not heated thus swimming lessons take place during the summer months.

Cricket forms part of the extra mural sport activities that take place on a Friday morning. The learners are taught cricket skills, which improves hand-eye co-ordination, fitness and other gross motor skills.

The foundation phase learners get the blood pumping on a Friday morning with Zumba exercises. It is a fun way to improve a child’s co-ordination and gross motor skills.

Kinderkinetics lessons presented by a qualified Kinderkinetisist is provided to all Grade R and 1 learners at no extra cost. These lessons focus on improving the learners fine and gross motor skills which in turn improves a child’s ability to learn. It is an added bonus you did not know that you needed until you have experienced its results.
