Academics

Academics

A love of learning, an enthusiasm for truth.

High-quality, holistic education that prepares every child to think clearly, work hard, and care deeply.

Our approach

We take academics seriously.

Sancta Maria follows the CAPS curriculum in close partnership with the Department of Education — but we believe learning happens best when classrooms are warm, expectations are high, and every child is known by name.

01

CAPS curriculum

Full alignment with national curriculum standards, taught by experienced teachers in partnership with the DBE.

02

Holistic development

Academic, spiritual, social, physical and creative growth — each child supported to develop the very best version of themselves.

03

Computer & coding

Hands-on computer lessons and an introduction to coding, embedded into the timetable from the foundation phase upwards.

04

Hands-on science

Extra science lessons throughout the year — practical, curious, and aimed at making the world feel discoverable.

Recognition & awards

We celebrate effort, growth and excellence.

Three ways we recognise our pupils' achievements throughout the year.

I

Top Five Awards

Each term, the top five academic achievers per grade are recognised at assembly with badges and certificates.

II

Olympiads & competitions

Our pupils enter — and consistently excel in:

  • Spelling Bee
  • Maths Olympiad
  • EMS Olympiad
  • Readathons
III

Annual Prize Giving

The fourth-term ceremony recognises outstanding work across academics, sport, culture, and personal development.

Learning support

Every child needs a different door into learning.

Some children need a little extra help to thrive — and that's something we plan for, not work around. Our on-site Occupational Therapy partnership and our specialist Time Quest programme give learners the support they need, right where they already feel at home.

Time Quest (Grade R – 3) — OT-led activities woven into the school day, focused on coordination, focus and confidence.

Veritas in the classroom

Truth, taught with care.

Our motto, Veritas, isn't just a Latin word above the door — it shapes how we teach. We expect honest work, encourage real questions, and reward effort just as much as results.

The result is a school where children leave Grade 7 confident, articulate, kind — and ready for high school.
