Our story

Seventy years of quiet courage in education.

Sancta Maria was founded in 1954 by the Cabra Dominican Sisters — an independent Catholic school grounded in a tradition that stretches back over eight hundred years.

We were one of the first schools in South Africa to enrol children of colour during the apartheid years, and the first in our area to open its doors to all races. That spirit — the courage to do what is right, quietly and consistently — still guides who we are today.

Once a senior school as well, our final matric class graduated in 1975. Today we focus our energy where it matters most: laying a strong, joyful foundation for children from Grade R to Grade 7.
